1/2 c. water
1 c. warm milk
2 T butter, softened
2 T sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
2 packages (1/4 oz. each) dry yeast
1 egg white, beaten
Dissolve yeast in water with sugar, let stand 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in milk, butter, and salt, stir until combined. Gradually add flour until dough forms a soft ball. Knead 5-7 min. Rise in a greased bowl in a warm place until doubled, about an hour.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Divide into six portions; shape into balls. Place on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 min. Brush wit egg white.
Bake at 375F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks.
To make bowls, cut the top fourth off of bread; carefully hollow out bottom of each, leaving 1/4" shell. Or using a sharp knife, cut a circle from the top down to the bottom and carefully hollow out bread.
